Chrysoprase (Chalcedony quartz)

Chrysoprase is a relatively inexpensive type of chalcedony quartz that is found in clear, bright green shades. It is found in light to medium green colors that resembles jade somewhat and are often mistaken for real jade. Normally cut cabochon style to capitalize on its clarity, it is malleable and easily shaped for jewelry. For years the only chrysoprase found was from Poland , Brazil and Kazakstan, but since 1965 it has mined in Queensland , Australia and recently even from Western Australia . It is often presented as ‘Australian jade', though this can hardly be further from the truth, so beware of mislabeling in this case.
