Rhodolite is a red garnet with very strong purple undertones. They are appreciated for deeply rich coloring that glitters brightly because of their sheer transparency and like so many types of garnets they come in a wide assortment of clarity grades that may make their prices contrast greatly. Found in Sri Lanka , India , Brazil and Africa . Tanzania is the major source for this stone, and its price-range should be about $30-$200 per carat for less than 5 carat weight and $70-$500 per carat for 5-20 carat gems.
