Scapolite

This is a gem that you will probably not see in the market, despite the recent resurgence of interest in it. It is versatile in terms of color, ranging from almost utterly colorless to orange, yellow and light red shades and to the other side of the spectrum with blues, greens and violets. It is reasonably hardy, rating 6.5 of the Moh scale, so it is very suitable for jewelry, and it is commonly cut cabochon style to enhance the color. Now found in Kenya and Brazil , scapolite is usually transparent, though it is sometimes found in semi-transparent form. It may be misrepresented or mistaken for yellow beryl or citrine.
