Spodumene
Spodumene

There are two typical kinds of spodumene in the market today- Hiddenite and Kunzite. Both are relatively cheap to buy and come in lovely colors and different sizes. They are often used as substitutes for more expensive gems, such as topaz, tourmaline or beryl and so be aware of the fact that many topaz gems you see are actually a type of spodumene. The rarer kind, hiddenite, is a light green gem with yellow undertones. It has also been found in very rare shades of dark green and it is a hard, brittle gem that must be worn with care. The more common variety, Kunzite, is found in pastel hues of pink, pale purple, lilac and violet. It is a cheap, pale gem of clear color that is found in Pakistan , Afghanistan , Brazil and the U.S. It ranges from very pale pink stones to pale purple shades and it is very affordable, though not very popular in the West. High-grade.

Kunzite prices will range from $20-$230 per carat for gems less than 5 carats and $65-$250 per carat for gems of 5-20 carat weight. Like hiddenite, it rates only 6 on the Moh scale and it isn't very durable. Furthermore, the color doesn't hold very well over time and it will fade if held too long in direst sunlight. It is recommended you wear these gems in the evening when they are not vulnerable to fading.
