Flat-top , like gypsy and bezel settings, also hold the gem by creating a little hole at the top of the ring, with the gem sitting inside the hole. However, flat-top settings also hold the gem in place by small tongs or chips of metal attached by solder at the stones girdle. If the little tongs are worked into small beads this settings is called ‘ bead settings' .
